Size Guide

While the size requirements for storing personal belongings may vary depending on the items being stored and the renter's organization skills, the guide below can be used as a starting point to help determine the appropriate storage size.

1

Step One - Select Your Item Sizes

Put together a list of items that can fit in boxes and what size boxes. Don't forget to include items that cannot fit in boxes

2

Step Two - Categorize Your Items

Make a quick list of items you plan to store, including furniture, appliances, and any awkwardly-shaped items that will not be packed in boxes

3

Step Three - Categorize Your Item Quantities

Determine how many boxes of different sizes you'll be using. Make a list of all the pieces of furniture and other items you need to store in your unit

4

Step Four - Estimate What Size Unit You Need

Now that you have compiled a list of how many boxes and items you need to store in your unit, use our Size Guide Breakdown below that gives tips and suggestions on what size unit you may need

Size Guide Breakdown

5' X 5'

The 5x5 is our smallest unit and the one people reach for when they just need a little breathing room at home. At 25 square feet — roughly a walk-in closet — it holds what's cluttering a spare room or garage corner without committing you to space you won't fill.

Great for storing:

  • Seasonal decor, holiday bins, and offseason clothing
  • Business records, tax files, and office supplies
  • Camping gear, garden tools, and sports equipment
  • A few small pieces of furniture or boxed keepsakes

5' X 10'

Think of the 5x10 as a closet you can actually walk into — 50 square feet that comfortably holds the contents of a studio or a single bedroom. It's one of our most-rented sizes because it bridges the gap between "a few boxes" and "a full room of furniture."

Great for storing:

  • A mattress set, dresser, and nightstands
  • Boxes plus a small sofa or a few appliances
  • Lawn mowers, snowboards, bicycles, and seasonal gear
  • Inventory, files, or equipment for a small business

10' X 10'

At 100 square feet, the 10x10 sits in the middle of the lineup and is a favorite for good reason — about half a standard garage, enough for the furnishings of a one-bedroom apartment with room to step in and find things. If you're unsure how much space you need, this is a safe place to start.

Ideal for storing:

  • Living room and bedroom furniture — sofas, tables, dressers, mattress sets
  • Major appliances like a washer, dryer, or refrigerator
  • Electronics, instruments, and boxed household goods
  • Office desks, chairs, and shelving

10' X 15'

The 10x15 gives you 150 square feet — close to a standard bedroom — and handles the belongings of a two-bedroom home without forcing you to stack everything to the ceiling. Families mid-move or mid-renovation tend to land here.

Great for storing:

  • The full contents of two bedrooms, including beds, dressers, and bookcases
  • Large appliances — washers, dryers, refrigerators
  • Patio furniture, grills, bicycles, and outdoor gear
  • Business inventory and office furnishings

10' X 20'

When you're between homes, staging a house for sale, or in the middle of a big renovation, the 10x20 is built for it. Its 200 square feet — about the size of a single-car garage — hold the contents of a three- to four-bedroom house.

Great for storing:

  • Sectionals, dining sets, mattress sets, and entertainment centers
  • Full-size appliances and large electronics like TVs and pianos
  • Lawnmowers, grills, bikes, and bulky outdoor equipment
  • The combined inventory and furnishings of a small office

10' X 30'

Our largest standard unit, the 10x30 offers 300 square feet — comparable to a large garage and roomy enough for a four- to five-bedroom household. It's the choice for the biggest moves and the items that never fit neatly into a box.

Ideal for storing:

  • Oversized, awkward pieces — sectionals, entertainment centers, full bedroom and dining sets
  • Every major appliance in the house
  • Outdoor gear, from mowers and grills to canoes and small watercraft
  • Full business inventory, fixtures, and office furnishings

Parking — Vehicle, RV & Boat Storage

When the driveway is full and the garage is spoken for, our outdoor parking spaces give your vehicles a home of their own. Store In Place offers drive-up parking for everything from a daily driver to a weekend boat or a full-size RV — so the things you only use part of the year aren't taking up space the rest of it.

Spaces feature easy drive-up access, making it simple to pull in, drop off, and get back on the road. Whether you're protecting a classic car over the winter, clearing the boat out of the driveway after the season, or parking an RV between trips, there's room to keep it close and accessible.

Great for storing:

  • Cars, trucks, and motorcycles
  • Boats and personal watercraft on trailers
  • Travel trailers, campers, and full-size RVs
  • Utility trailers and seasonal vehicles

Good to know: Stored vehicles need to be running, registered, and insured. Parking space sizes vary by location, so contact your nearest facility to confirm availability and find the right fit.
